Summer Reading Program 2017: Build a Better World

Richmond County residents of all ages are invited to participate in the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System’s (ARCPLS) “Build a Better World” 2017 Summer Reading Program. The program begins on May 20 and lasts through July 28. We invite everyone from babies to senior citizens to participate, and we welcome summer camps and other groups to participate as well. Interested persons can sign up under the appropriate age category through the links below or at your local ARCPLS branch:

Children (10 years old and younger)

Young Adult (11 years old – 17 years old)

Adult (18 years old+)

Groups (summer camps, day cares, etc.)

Once participants have signed up, they can download their reading logs here or visit a local ARCPLS branch to  pick up a reading log. Once participants complete their reading logs, they can return them to their local branch between May 20 and July 28. Children and young adults 18 years and younger will receive special prizes for completing their reading logs, including tickets to a special Augusta Greenjackets game on August 4, 2017, while supplies last. Groups will receive a box full of goodies All participants who turn in a reading log will be entered into a drawing for one of three Kindle Fires (one for children, one for young adults, and one for adults).

ARCPLS has a variety of exciting FREE activities planned for all ages during the Summer Reading Program. The Junior Junior Prom for young adults 11-17 years old will be held on June 2 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Headquarters Library (823 Telfair Street, Augusta). Tweens and teens (and parents, too!) are invited to put on their best outfits and enjoy a fun night of dancing and other activities at this annual celebration of reading. The family-friendly Summer Reading Kickoff will be held on Saturday, June 3, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Appleby Branch Library (2260 Walton Way, Augusta). Families are invited to come and enjoy hands-on activities with a five senses theme, magic tricks by Magician John Browning, and free snacks provided by Lanier Meats.

Of course, all ARCPLS locations are offering story times, crafts, and other special activities for all ages throughout the 2017 Summer Reading season. This summer’s “Build a Better World” theme explores all kinds of topics, from discovering the world around us to learning how to transform our world and more.
